First Bite Artemia Cysts

Artemia

Artemia live in salt lakes throughout the world and can survive in water that has a much higher or much lower salinity than seawater, tests have shown that they can tolerate water containing 50% salt which is nearly a saturated solution and can also survive in water very different to seawater such as potassium permanganate or silver nitrate whilst iodine – a frequent addition to edible salts is harmful to them.
The colour of the artemia varies depending on the level of salt in the water that the artemia are harvested for example a red coloured artemia will come from a lake of high salinity. Artemia mainly fed on phytoplankton (green algae) in the wild and did you know that live artemia will not survive in fresh water for much more than one hour.
